The biggest resistance to Christianity is that many people feel like they should not have to change or compromise their life to fit the standard of Christ.

As a Christian, we sacrifice our flesh and selfish desires to be in relationship with God. God is not expecting this to happen immediately nor is He expecting this to be done perfectly. But He is expecting us to make a daily choice to choose Jesus over our flesh, and He is expecting us to live in a way that glorifies His name.

God wants sanctification. Sanctification happens through the leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit. It is a daily choice to lay our selfish desires down, and follow Christ.

“Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”
Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭24‬-‭25‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Many people think that we are under some kind of bondage or misery because we cannot do what we want. But the truth is, when you fall in love with a perfect, holy, and righteous God who saved your soul, you’ll WANT to change. There will be things that you just don’t want to do or engage in because of the God you made a commitment to.

By no means am I saying it’s easy. Any Christian would tell you that it takes discipline and obedience. But as you grow in your relationship with God, you’ll want to do anything that pleases Him. The same goes for our earthly relationships, none of us want to do anything to harm, disrespect, or hurt the people we love. It takes sacrifice, compromise, and a lot of selflessness to have relationships.

Why should it be any different with God?

In no way am I comparing the two, but you see the analogy. The truth is, a relationship with God is no different than an earthly relationship, but at the exact same time incredibly different.

We sacrifice, bend over backwards, and serve imperfect people all the time, why not do the same for the God of the universe who is perfect in all His ways.

I want to invite unbelievers to reconsider how they see and perceive Christianity. You may recognize that you have a lot more in common with Christians than you think.

“This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭3‬:‭10‬ ‭NIV‬‬
