Postmodernism is an interesting ideology that has taken our culture by storm. For some of you, you may have never heard of Postmodernism. But trust me, you have seen and witnessed it. I studied Postmodernism in my undergrad, and I am studying it again in graduate school. This belief system has both shocked and challenged the Christian community. I personally believe this is one of the reasons why many Christians have grown more interested in apologetics, destructing their faith, and on the other extreme leaving Christianity altogether.

What exactly is Postmodernism? It is the ideology that your truth is your truth, and my truth is my truth. Postmodernism is built upon skepticism, and how nothing on earth has a definite truth or reality. For better terminology, truth is subjective, and everyone has their own definition of it. One of the downfalls of this ideology is that anything and everything goes. Anything and everything can be justified to make sense or be right or be morally acceptable. Postmodern thinkers reject any absolute certainty on the origin of life; there is no one idea, story, event, or possible experience about creation, humanity, or morality. Everything is dependent on personal preference and distinction. The measuring stick for ethics, beliefs, and laws are constantly changing because anything can be proven wrong. The sad part about all this is that it is impossible to live this way.

Rather we want to admit it or not, we are using something or someone to conduct our life decisions. It could be our horoscope, our enneagram number, our religion, our relationships, our trauma, our failures, or our own personal desires. The point that I am making is that everyone has a god or God on the throne of their heart. You are subconsciously following something that dictates your life.

The purpose of Christianity is not to get you to follow rules or become legalistic. The purpose of Christianity is to understand how icky, selfish, and nasty we truly are, and how we need a savior, Jesus Christ, to make us righteous. People think following rules and obeying commandments is what makes you Christian but it’s not. Believing and having faith in Jesus is what makes you a Christian. Now after you become a Christian, there is a natural urge to follow the commandments of the God you serve. It comes when you slowly develop and grow in your relationship with God. It’s not forced, BUT INSTEAD it’s love, it’s discipline, and it’s trusting someone greater than you. Christianity is understanding that you don’t know it all and that you don’t have the best plan for your life, but God does. If you are an unbeliever who desires to become a Christian, I don’t want you to focus on behaving or acting like a Christian. I invite you to confess and believe. In Jesus Name, you can be saved and resurrected to a new life. Build your life on a solid foundation that never changes and is forever the same no matter the culture you live in or the rocky feelings you have.

The truth is, God is real. God is constant. God is steady. God is never changing. In a world full of changes, I want to build my life on something that does not.

I invite you to join the family of Christ!

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” – John 3:16

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:16

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!- 2 Corinthians 5:17
