If the Bible had one message to tell it would be that Christ is Lord of all.

Notice how I stated the Bible and not just the New Testament. Some Christians dismiss the importance of the Old Testament; but the Old Testament allows us to see the story of redemption that God brings through Christ.

One of the best ways to approach the Old Testament is to understand that God is doing everything possible to be amongst His people. In this context, God’s chosen people were the Israelites, who are also known as Jews. He sets up covenants, rules, and commandments; and he even appoints priests, judges, kings, and prophets to help guide them. God used all these things to help the Israelites live a holy lifestyle; however, the Israelites kept falling into sin. Was this their fault? No, not necessarily. Adam brought a curse on to the world, which caused humanity to be born as slaves to sin. The Old Testament tells the story of the Israelites inability to please God through their own strength. God desired to be with the Israelites, but He could not be because of their sin. So, what does He do? God sends a savior, the one and only sacrificial lamb, who would cover the sins of not only the Jews but the entire world. He did this because he knew that there was no other way.

The Old Testament paints a picture of how our life would be without Jesus.

Spoiler alert if you have not read the Old Testament yet, it is a constant cycle of sacrifice, failure, and forgiveness between the Israelites and God.

My hope is that you understand the importance of the Old Testament, and how it relates to your relationship with Christ.
