IT ALL MEANS SOMETHING

We serve a creative and purposeful God. There is nothing God does that is careless, by mistake, or a coincidence.

I relate this concept to the writings of the Gospels.

Did you know that each book of the Gospel is written to a specific audience? Each book portrays a different portrait of Jesus to relate to the different groups and people during this context. Each author was led by the Holy Spirit to intentionally reveal more about the identity of Jesus.

Matthew is written to the Jews, which focuses on the kingship of Jesus. The Jews needed to understand Jesus as their Messiah and deliverer. Therefore there are many terms and references about Jesus as King in his relation to King David.

Mark is written to the Gentiles, which focuses on the actions of Jesus. The Gentiles needed to recognize how Jesus is an obedient servant of God. They needed to understand that Jesus came to heal, deliver, and restore their soul’s.

Luke is written to the outcasts, which focuses on Jesus’ heart for humanity. This audience needed to understand how Jesus is the Son of man. This group of people needed to recognize that Jesus had (and still has) a heart for the marginalized (contextually, these were women, the poor, disabled, slaves, widowers and orphans).

John is written to Jews, Hellenist, and Samaritans, which focuses on how Jesus is the savior of the world. This is written to an audience who needed to recognize Jesus as the Son of God. This book has more of an evangelistic approach for both Jews and Gentiles. This book explains how Jesus came to save the entire world.

JESUS IS KING.

JESUS IS THE OBEDIENT SERVANT.

JESUS IS THE SON OF MAN.

JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD.

Each title allows us to dig deeper into the person of Jesus Christ.
